March 23rd, 2009

At times I was unsure if we would make it, but now I know that the shapings of a wonderful musical are in the wings waiting to finally perform for an eager public audience.  Five months later, following workshops, auditions and rehearsals, the purpose of this project comes home to roost.  The Wizard of Oz is about searching, discovery and redevelopment - this process that we have all shared in has run paralell to the concepts which underpin our musical tale.  170 students, 50 parents, 5 teachers, numerous professional people - Lisa, Doc, Annalisa, Michael, David, Jamie, Cormac, Mick to name but a few, 10 stage hands, 2 dogs and a plethora of others on the periphery have come on board to make this project happen.

For many, the overall scope of what they have been part of will not dawn on them until it is over - speaking with previous students from both colleges, the musical is always noted as a highlight of transiiton year, a place where new friendships were forged, even where the odd relationship along the way has begun.  For each of you, the experiences, the memories will be different - all I can hope is that they are all positive.  Behind my ‘bark’ is a deep desire to instill an interest, develop a passion, display a discipline about what it means to commit to something and to achieve your best in all you do.

To all those who have worked on the musical, I cannot express my gratitude enough.  I know for some of you, it has been an eye-opener, for others, a chance to display a variety of skills that perhaps you don’t normally have the opportunity to utilise.  For me, it has been an adventure of dsiscovery that I have relished - working with so many talented parents, students and fellow colleagues.  Your contribution will always be remembered in the years to come - Many thanks.  It has been an absolute pleasure to have shared this opportunity with you all.

As the final curtain looms for Wizard of Oz next Friday, all those who have given up their time on your behalf will revert back to their normal daily lives, families and friends.  I hope that you have enjoyed the experience and will remember with fondness your time in Wizard of Oz.  On bahalf of everyone working on the show to you the cast of Wizard of Oz - “Break a leg!!”
